Yay! We are renovating our house, which is exciting.
But because we are getting a whole new roof it means that my Internet Satellite Dish will have to come down, and I won't have any internet for quite a while...

So sadly I'll be closing both my etsy and bigcartel shops around the 18th November!
It's possible I might not reopen them until the New Year, but I'm just not sure yet.

Don't worry. I'll still be doing the November Prize Draw though...even if it means I have to go to an internet cafe to contact the winner and undate my blog :)

New Triangular Limited Edition Range...

Fresh out of the kiln...I am so excited by these new pieces.
I really love different triangular shapes, and I've had this idea in my mind for a while now...so I was very happy when I finally finished these.
Oh my goodness they are SO fiddly and time-consuming to create!
I have carefully freehand etched the dichroic glass with intricate freehand designs. I need a big magnifying glass to do that LOL.

I LOVE the combination of shapes and colours and patterns.
And I've made a very small limited range of these...all one-of-a-kind of course :)
They are in my BigCartel shop.

New Owls....

Oh yay!... Something new...
I do love these owls!
I have freehand etched some fat owls, skinny owls, cranky owls, cutie pie owls...
Lots of gorgeous little owls in lots of different colours...

And...at last... Blue Fairy Wrens... hand-etched into my fave turquoise blue textured glass!

I also have the last of my pretty suncatchers listed there..
These come in a gift box and include a suction hook for easy attachment to any window or mirror.. I love them!

A slightly new look...

It's been quite a while since I last blogged.... life has been rather hectic!
I've had my iMac for more than a year but finally got around to playing with the graphic side of it to see what it could do.
So I now have a nice new banner here on my blog, uniquedichroic etsy shop and BigCartel shop. And Oh My Goodness I LOVE my Mac hehe... (I am pretty sure everyone who has mac knows how I feel :)

I have to apologise for the erratic opening and closing of my main etsy shop...A family member is not well, and I think it will be a few months more before I'll be able to re-open uniquedichroic.
I am looking forward to that!

But I do miss my online connection.
Etsy has always been a little hectic for me but BigCartel runs at a pace I can cope with at the moment... and so I will slowly be restocking my BigCartel shop when I get a bit of time here and there.

Butterfly Wings

New!... Limited Edition Butterfly Wing Pendants!
I am so pleased with these...
I have created a small 'Limited Edition' range of special Butterfly Wing Pendants.
They have all been freehand etched with different designs, and dangle freely from a wired solid sterling silver bail.
They also now include a very nice silver snake chain...

I do have to say I really enjoyed making these...and I am thrilled with how they turned out! (I actually kept a silver and a rainbow one for myself and love them)
But Oh My Goodness they were very fiddly and time-consuming to make, and at this stage will not be a regular part of my pendant range....definitely Limited Edition!

At the moment they are only at my BigCartel shop...

New Mini-Pendants !...
So sweet. I have carefully hand-etched these pretty little pendants, and they dangle beautifully from handmade bails.
They also include a magnetic clasp choker-style necklace.
I have a few available in my BigCartel shop (Only $14 each)

Plus here are a few of my fave new pendants...

Egyptian symbol.. 'The Eye of Horus' has been known to be a symbol of protection, royalty and love. I have hand-etched this into stunning purple pink textured glass.

Glass Studio Clearance shop re-opened!

Yay I was sorting through my studio and came across a box of pendants that I had made a while back..
They are not in the style of my more recent creations, but they are still fabulous and nice quality pendants.
And so I decided to re-open my GlassStudioClearance shop and get them listed for a bargain price $12 each!
I shall be listing more pendants regularly so keep watch for first choice!

Re: Australian Flood Disaster!

Like every one else, we have been so saddened and upset by the terrible flooding that large parts of Australia are currently experiencing. Such an awful tragic time!

I am part of the DUST team (Down Under Street Team) which is a group of Australian sellers on etsy. And we have banded together and set up a shop to help with the Qld government Relief Appeal.

The shop is AusDisasterRelief and all items in the shop have been donated by etsy sellers from all over the world.
Every item has free postage, and all profits (minus paypal and etsy fees) are being donated directly to the The Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.

So please, come and browse and shop... and help raise money for a great cause!

Yay! My 'real life' customers absolutely love my dichroic glass rings.
And I finally have a few select gorgeous hand-etched rings listed at my BigCartel shop!

These fit most fingers and are fully adjustable!
And I have carefully hand-etched trees, flowers, dragonflies and even a Boab tree into sparkling textured dichroic glass... So pretty and only $12.50 each:)
Plus some more EARRINGS at last!
These dangle beautifully from a loop that's fused in with the glass... and I have handmade the solid sterling silver earring wires... gorgeous!

Well, I must admit it feels a little strange... My etsy shop is closed!
Hopefully I will be able to re-open around February, but I am not sure at this stage and will be playing it by ear...

In the mean time my BigCartel shop is still open.

First up, a great big THANK YOU to everyone for helping make 2010 such a wonderful year for me!
My etsy shop became far more successful than I thought it ever would be...
And I really love the online side of my life and I love the connection I have with special people all over the world....it has given me a great deal of joy!

But lately I have been struggling to find better 'family time' balance, and time and energy to keep it going.
And so I've decided to close my etsy shop around the 14th December.

I will re-open again sometime in the new year, but it will probably be on a part-time basis at this stage.

Does this ever happen to you?
Every now and then I'll have an idea in my mind and when I go to create it it turns out SO much better than I'd ever imagined!

That is what happened when I created these three extra special
'Love' 'Joy' & 'Happiness' pendants.

I knew I wanted the look of White Opal and that part of it turned out beautifully..with layers and layers of colorful dichroic that looks just like real white opal.
And then I added 22k gold Chinese characters, and wrapped the glass in quality 14k gold wire.

Wow! I can't stop looking at them..they are so pretty :)
I'm thrilled!

Ooops ???...or a mini work of art!

Oh dear!
Every now and then I create an 'Ooops' that really makes me laugh!

The other day I tried to make two pendants... one with a kangaroo and joey, and the other with Aussie grass trees....(both in fabulous sparkling Autumn Fire dichroic glass, which is one of my faves!)

And somehow I mistakenly fused them together....so one side has the grass trees and the other side has the kangaroo!
Oh no!...what to do? They were obviously unsuitable for pendants now.

So I decided to make a little copper stand and now I have a gorgeous little reversible work of art!
When I get tired of looking at the grass tree I can simply and easily just turn the glass around and look at the kangaroo ...hehe

It now sits on my desk and makes me smile :)

My little studio...

I recently sent out my very first new format 'What's New Newsletter' to everyone on my mailing list.
As well of pics of my latest creations, I also included a small section about my studio.
And I received such positive feedback from so many people telling me how much they enjoyed it...so I thought I'd share it here as well :)

I thought you might enjoy a peek at my studio.
My cosy little studio is a historic one room cottage at the end of my garden.
It is around 100 years old and was originally used as 'Single Mens Quarters' at an early 1900's on-site timber mill out in the forest.
In the 1940's it was moved on the back of a truck to a local timber mill, and was continued to be used as living accommodation.
In the early 70's it was moved again to it's present location on our property.
The previous owners used to make cheese and salamis and used it as a smoke house!
We bought the property about 15 years ago, and the thing we loved the most was the historic buildings. The adjoining barn houses my kilns and was built in 1934.

Something a little spooky... This is a little clay house that I made a few years before we ever saw this property. It's almost exactly the same as my studio and even has a little crooked chimney LOL

Here's a peek into my studio...

I still find it amazing that I can live such a quiet peaceful isolated rural lifestyle but still feel so connected to a global community via the internet :)

I have to say, I was pretty excited when I opened the kiln this morning!
I have been making my original design 'Unique 3D' pendants for a long time and they have been a big favorite with my customers...

But this time I decided to give my 'Unique 3D' pendants a new twist!
I have used lots of pretty patterned and etched dichroic glass and I am so happy with them.

But I think my absolute faves are the ones that I created to be completely translucent!
They have such a unique look.... I LOVE them...

I'm loving this new red 3D hand-etched tree pendant.
And I really like this new tube-style bail.
It fits really well with my glass and looks great with both the 2mm neoprene and thin steel necklaces.

Animal lovers...Here's one for you!
'Paws of Love'...wrapped with solid Sterling Silver.
I have hand-etched paws and little love hearts...so sweet:)

And something a bit different... a teardrop shaped pendant wrapped with silver.
This is translucent red and has really lovely speckled dichroic glass floating over rainbow dichroic.

Wow!... Fabulous New Glass...

...Fresh out of the kiln this morning!
There definitely was lots of Ooohs and Ahhhs when I took fabulous new crinkled glass out of the kiln.
These are my new faves and I am so pleased with them:)
All have them have been free-hand etched, and I really love the horse pendant ( I actually have two appaloosas) ....And I was amazed at how beautifully the glass changes and 'crinkles' in the kiln.

And I also have a few other new hand-etched designs that I am so pleased with!
These have a fabulous metallic-look dichroic glass... New Butterfly and cute little Angel :)
I used to make Raku butterflies and Angels out of clay many years ago (before I discovered glass), and it's so nice to adapt my clay designs into glass:)

Fresh Out of the Kiln!...

Wow...I am so thrilled with what came out of my kiln this morning!
It was my first time firing a new turquoise and purple crinkled dichroic glass...and I think I am in love!
It's definitely my new fave! I just adore the crinkled effect, and the colours really are so amazing...(far nicer than the pics can show)
Even though the Calla Lily is a bit of a weed down here in the South West WA, it looks fabulous on this new pendant :)

Fresh Out Of The Kiln.....

Oh My Goodness!... I am totally THRILLED with my latest creations!
These took a minimum of three separate kiln firings and were very labor intensive, but are so worth it..
There are layers and layers of different dichroic glass colors and patterns, and a fabulous look of depth and color that the camera cannot capture.
And I have securely wrapped them with solid Sterling Silver!
Some of them are really HUGE!... I kept a similar warm earthy colored large pendant for myself and I LOVE it...

And I love the ones that I've made to look like 'White Opal'...just gorgeous!

Fresh Out Of The Kiln!!

Wow!...I am just THRILLED with my latest kiln firing!
I have been hand-etching spectacular textured dichroic glass...this is a really special glass that changes during the kiln firing. and I call it my 'magic' glass.
For example, the silver glass is actually a flat violet purple before its fired, and during the kiln firing when the glass starts to get red hot and starts to melt you can actually watch the color change to silver... and you can watch the crystal-like texture start to form.
By the time you open the kiln again after the glass has cooled, it has completely changed from the flat violet purple to the most eye-catching textured silver!...It really is amazing, and I LOVE it:)

What I love most about this glass is the way the light catches it, and how much it sparkles in the sunlight.
As well as my most popular silver textured glass, I also experimented with a very pretty pink textured glass. The glossy bold black parts of these hand-etched pendants really contrasts beautifully with the silver and the pink....I'm so happy with them:)

Fresh Out of the Kiln!

I think I may be finally over this 'etching' obsession that I've had for a while now, and I have created more of my glorious 'Dreaming' pieces.
It's been quite a while since I've made these colorful multi-layered pendants, and I was THRILLED when I opened the kiln this morning...
Collectors of my work will remember this style from a few years ago. I originally called these my 'Dreaming' pieces because at night different colors and patterns would float through my mind, and I tried to re-create my dreams in the studio.
I've made these pretty pendants in all different colors... some are completely translucent and I have wrapped them with sterling silver...and others are in beautiful 'Warm Rainbow' colors with rich warm reds and golds. And lots of pinks and purples and blues... I love them:)
All the pieces shown here...and more!... will be listed soon at my etsy shop, so keep watch for first choice:)

Yay!... Fresh out of the kiln and I LOVE it! LOL
I was so pleased with how this special piece turned out.
This stunning silver dichroic 'slide pendant' necklace has a unique textured crystal-like look and feel. The sparkling metallic-look silver dichro really catches the sunlight, and I love the way the hand-etched black tree silhouette appears amongst the silver 'crystals' !

I've attached the pendant to a really lovely 3mm thick black adjustable neoprene necklace. This is thicker than the 2mm cords that are complimentary with my other pendants...I think the thicker cord suits this slide style pendant better. And the adjustable length necklace can be worn at any length from 16in" to 20in", which makes it far more versatile than a fixed length necklace :)

What am I wearing???

What am I wearing??... It's winter here in Australia, and I find I am wearing lots more warm earthy colours...lots of browns and russet and orange. And I just wanted to show you the piece that I wear most often.
It is this wire wrapped Tree piece, which has glorious golds and orange.... and I wear it on one of my 4mm adjustable length neoprene necklaces.
I really like these adjustable cords because I can wear it at any length to suit whatever top I am wearing..higher for t-shirts and lower for v-necks etc :)

And I have to tell you that I cannot believe how many comments I get from people who stop and tell me how stunning my necklace is... I get stopped by total strangers while I am shopping !
And I honestly don't think there has been one time that I've worn it, that there has not been a compliment about it.

I even surprised myself, because I normally wear pieces with a lot more rainbows and purples. But I picked this piece out because it went so beautifully with a brown shirt I bought, and now I rarely take it off LOL
So anyway, this piece is NOT for sale...it's mine! But I do plan to be making similar colored ones soon.

I was SO excited to open the kiln and find this stunning piece... I hand-etched cascading leaves into the most glorious metallic looking dichroic glass that shifts and changes in color from green to aquas to blues...and then almost purple when seen at an extreme angle.
It turned out so much nicer than I thought it would have... I just love it :)

Yay!...Completely translucent Tree of Life pendants... I love these :)
I've combined hand-etched brilliantly colored dichroic glass with translucent glass in blues and purples...and have wire wrapped them to retain the unique 'see through' look.
They really are amazing!

A Big Oooops! ... or a Great New Idea??

Oh My Goodness, I just laughed so much when I opened the kiln yesterday morning :)
...What do these two pendants have in common ???...

Well, they are the SAME pendant ! LOL
Yes, through making a very silly mistake I've actually created a fully reversible pendant that can be worn to show a different hand etched design on either side !
I've cut a discrete groove into the side of the glass and securely wrapped the glass with wire, so there is no glued on bail...

I only accidentally made two... Here's another one...
This one has a tree on one side and a fabulous cobweb design on the other side.

I'm starting to think it was not such a bad mistake to make :)

Fresh out of the kiln !... Fabulous colorful and bright new glass, with a unique metallic look that will amaze you :)
I was so excited to open the kiln after these had finished firing... I luuuurrrvve this new glass that I am using. And it seems to suit my hand-etched pieces so well.

I've cut a discrete groove into the side of all these pieces, and have securely wrapped them in either gold or silver non-tarnish wire. This special glass is my new fave at the moment, and I will definitely be using more of it soon.
What I've shown here is just a very small selection of the different colors... There are so many more !

Australian Bushfires...

Like everyone else in Australia (and around the world) we has been absolutely horrified and upset by the devastating bushfires in the Eastern States... Our heart goes out to everyone affected.

To help raise funds for the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal, an Etsy shop has been opened.
All the items for sale have been donated, and all proceeds go to charity.
Plus, all items are Free Postage....

All trees are not the same.....

I've been fascinated with trees ever since I started etching them into glass... and I take a great interest at every tree I see now .... Everyone is different and just occasionally I'll come across a 'perfect' tree that I just have to stop and admire.
My Darling husband thought I was a bit mad when we'd be walking and I'd stop and say "Wow! Look at this tree..." . But now he's a 'tree looker' too, and points out really nice ones as well LOL

I get 'inspired' by different trees.... We came across this one, which is a few kms from home in a really lovely part of the forest and near a large granite outcrop.

I just loved the shape and the look of it.... and as soon as I got home I went straight down the studio to etch it !

I find our Aussie 'Grass Trees' fascinating too.... We are probably not politically correct enough and still call them 'Blackboys' like most people I know...

They all come in different shapes and sizes as well... We popped over the back fence into the National park to search for the 'perfect' Blackboy .

Here's my darling husband and poodle posing with the one that was my inspiration for some of my Blackboy pieces.

Stunning Silver Dichroic!
I'm thrilled with new pieces fresh out of the kiln this morning...
This silver dichroic glass has a glorious crystal like look to it, and I've hand-etched with different designs.. I love it :)

I live on a rural property in a very peaceful and quiet part of Western Australia... surrounded by thousands of acres of National Park.
It's so lovely here, and we never want to leave LOL

I just wanted to show you a few pics of my back yard and studio...

This is the view from the back of my house. This dam has a winter creek that runs through it, and has lots of red fin perch in it. It's fabulous to just grab a fishing rod, and wander down to your own dam and catch a few fish :)

... And my beautiful little studio ! The little one room cottage was originally a 'Single Mens Quarters' for the local timber mill, and was built about 1920. It was shifted to our property in the early '70's.

Mmm.... Oztion Vshop..

Mmm... I've been seriously thinking about re-opening my Aussie Oztion Vshop pretty soon.
It is going to be a big job to create lots of new listings and re-stock there, and so I've been putting it off.... But I am really going to have to spend a couple of days photographing and on the computer and get it done, because I have lots of my lovely Aussie buyers waiting for my return :)

I closed my Vshop in early December to have a break, as it was getting a little too hectic.
And yes, I've been having fun with my slower paced 'new international lover' Etsy, but I've been selling at Oztion for many many years... and have sold thousands of pieces there... and Oztion still feels like 'home' LOL

First up I have to say, I have no idea what I'm doing.
And I will just muddle through and work it out as I go.
